Fractional flow reserve has been defined as the difference between the amount of blood flow to a sick person and the amount of blood flow to an un-sick person. Why would you care? First of all, a smaller amount of blood flow to an ill person is always better than an equal amount of blood flow to an otherwise healthy person. Second, by increasing the fractional reserve, the amount of blood flow is increased to a greater degree overall. This increase in overall blood flow is good for the heart.
