3D Audio is a set of audio effects that change the perceived sound from one format to another, usually with the help of two or more external devices. 3D audio is an actual format and not just a masking format like other formats. Stereo audio refers to the transfer of stereo sound from one source to another, say from a stereo CD to a stereo DVD or a stereo headphone. Stereo audio solutions can be thought of as a transfer of mono audio. Mono is the least compressed 3D audio format available on a computer. In this method, all the audio data for each channel is stored as a series of compressed channels that are sent as stereo channels to output devices.
