One method used in gypsum mining is known as 'slashing out the ore'. This involves breaking down the gypsum into a fine powder. This is then packed into standard canister-type or wheeled conveyor systems and transported to different areas that need it. In some cases, the gypsum is left on the mountainside to dry while it continues to be processed. Other times, water is forced into the mines to runoff into the gypsum and clay. Another method of manufacturing gypsum products is through the use of steam or water pressure canes. In these cases, a drum containing the liquid is deposited onto a bearing, such as a plate or a wheel. When the drum is moved, it causes the liquid to escape into a holding pit.
