Cosmetics Surfactants Market

Growing awareness regarding beautification and rapid urbanization around the globe is driving the growth of the cosmetics surfactants market. According to the United Nation, in 2018, 55% of the world’s population lives in urban areas, a proportion that is expected to increase to 68% by 2050. Projections show that urbanization, the gradual shift in residence of the human population from rural to urban areas, combined with the overall growth of the world’s population could add another 2.5 billion people to urban areas by 2050, with close to 90% of this increase taking place in Asia and Africa. The growing cosmetic industry is also projected to augment the growth of the cosmetics surfactants market. According to Korea Cosmetic Association (KCA), the skincare cosmetics market, one of the largest import categories in Korea, was expected to reach US$ 4,944 million in 2017, from US$ 4,192 million in 2016.

The Asia Pacific is expected to hold the dominant position in the global cosmetics surfactants market and this is attributed to the increasing disposable income of consumers and rapid urbanization in the region. According to the Ministry of Economy and Industry, the Indian beauty and personal care industry is expected to reach US$ 10.5 billion in 2021, up by 40% from US$ 7.5 billion in 2016. Thus growing demand for cosmetic products in the region will favor the regional market growth. Also, the increasing working women population in this regions is again driving demand for cosmetic products which again bolstering the growth of the market

2 In April 2019, Brenntag (WKN A1DAHH), the global marketer in the chemical distribution has distributed Corbion´s newly launched range of ESTERLACTM emulsifiers and surfactants to cosmetics customers in key European markets.

Surfactants are a product of the petroleum and chemical industries. They are used in many of the additives that we use in our everyday life and cosmetics as well. Cosmetics surfactants are designed to be able to move with the oils and emulsions that they are exposed to, keeping them from clogging up or otherwise preventing them from working as they should. The most commonly used cosmetics surfactants are polymers. These can be found in many products, but they are most prominent in moisturizers and skincare creams.
