Evaporation Materials Are Used For Coating and For Impregnating Various Substrates in Several Industrial Applications

 Evaporative cooling is a broad category that includes a variety of cooling processes involving the use of heat to remove heat from a medium. Evaporative cooling is a key factor in refrigeration systems to provide cooling at moderate temperatures and low humidity. Some evaporation processes have low cost and energy efficiency as well.

Two popular evaporation materials used in industry are polyurethane and polyisocyanurate. Polyurethane is a thermo-plastic polymer comprising various polymers including isocyanates, polyisocyanates and polyols. It was first used in refrigeration to cool volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and prevent them from becoming combustible. It is also used in the automotive and aerospace industries to promote lubricity, decrease friction, enhance durability and increase oiliness. As per most recent reports, its popularity is likely to further rise in the U.S. in the coming years due to the wide range of applications in refrigerant preservation and environmental monitoring.

Polyurethane is a solid solution containing numerous contaminants. Its chemical structure permits vapour compression, which leads to evaporation of contaminants and water. It is often mixed with oil or grease to increase lubricity, reduce friction and increase oiliness. High-purity oil and grease, polyurethane and other evaporation materials have excellent thermal conductivity, but low boiling points. Low boiling points mean that the material does not release vapor emissions. Hence, the vapor is condensed into fine beads and collected for further processing. As mentioned earlier, high purity alloys tend to be sensitive to changes in temperature. In order to maintain the purity of purified gases during processing, industries need to use evaporation materials with high temperatures.

Apart from using evaporation materials for coating, industries also use them for impregnating various substrates. Two common types of coating include wet coating and dry coating. Wet coatings are used to coat metal surfaces as they do not allow corrosion to set in. In dry coating process, the coating remains solid during the oxidation process. The process ensures that the surface layer is deposited at the interface between substrate and oxidizer.
