Membrane Separation Market Continues To Expand With Toray Industries Inc. Developing Carbon Dioxide (Co2) Separation Membrane With Dual All-Carbon Structure

Membrane Separation Market

Membrane Separation is a process of cleaning with the help of Membrane Separation products. The process mainly uses two methods, one to clean the sample and another to clean the membrane. The membrane used here is a semi-permeable material like Teflon coated film. Some of the commonly used membranes are glass, polycarbonate, polyester, ceramic, and carbon among others. The membrane separation process is typically used in wastewater treatment plants. Over the years, the demand for wastewater treatment plants has increased due to rising awareness regarding wastewater. Recently, in July 2019, Suez, a French utility company, received a contract of US$ 161.4 million from the Government of India to build and operate a wastewater treatment plant in New Delhi, India. Hence, such factors can augment growth of the membrane separation market.

Membrane separation is primarily based on the existence of permeable semi-permeable membranes. Examples of such systems are the application of high temperature, the steady control of a gradient on the side of the membrane, sealing the pores of glass, polycarbonate, and polyester. Governments of many countries have started implementing stringent regulations on wastewater discharge due to environmental concerns. For instance, in May 2019, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directed the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) to issue stricter norms for effluent discharge from sewage treatment plants. Thus, such factors can lead to high growth of the membrane separation market.

Recently, in April 2021, Toray Industries Inc. developed a carbon dioxide (CO2) separation membrane with a dual all-carbon structure.

As far as geographical impact is concerned, emerging regions such as Asia Pacific seem to be gaining significant traction in the membrane separation market. This is typically due to the fact there is a rise in water pollution with constantly increasing environmental concerns. Furthermore, developed regions including North America and Europe are exhibiting promising signs in this market since government authorities are undertaking proactive initiatives to encourage sustainable development.

There are many types of Membrane Separations products available in the market today which include Membrane Purification, Membrane Treatment, and Membrane Removal. In Membrane Purification, various solid-phase organic substances like pesticides, industrial chemicals, and solvents are separated through various physical and chemical processes. Regardless, there are several challenges that limit the adoption of the membrane separation process. The cost of membrane filters is highly expensive and thus, it leads to budget constraints. Besides, membrane lifespan has increased significantly over the years, which is leading to limited repetitive sales. Hence, such factors can impede growth of the membrane separation market.
