n-Hexane Is Witnessing Robust Applications In Special Glue For Roofing & Shoemaking, Cleaning Agent In Textile, And Additives In Varnishes

n-Hexane

Hexane refers to both hexane and the solvent that makes it. It is also known as octane, hexahydragluene, hexane tetra-acetic, and hexahydrogluene hydrocarbons. Hexane is a common compound with the identical chemical formula C6H 14; that is, a monohydrogen with six carbon atoms attached. The word can also refer to a blend of them, or to any of the other numerous structural isomers which have that same formula. Since n-hexane behaves similarly to hydrocarbons when dissolved in water, it is often used as a carrier in many of the chemical reactions that involve alkanes.

Hexane has numerous applications in the industry, although is particularly well known as an antifungal agent for nail fungus. It can be useful for applications that don't require spraying; such as cleaning mirrors and countertops. Furthermore, some industrial applications use hexane for degreasing metal parts, stripping down insulation, and washing windows. It has other uses as well, including photo processing, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, paper production, photography and printing, and food processing (such as sterilization and dehydrating). A few specialized uses have also been developed for cosmetic and medical applications, although those commercial sectors are much smaller than the range of industrial chemical applications.

Hexane is versatile due to its ability to serve as a solvent and as a motor solvent. While n-hexane and its solvents are nontoxic, they have not had a great deal of testing and may still be considered toxic depending on your exposure level and individual circumstances. One area where hexane is currently regulated is in the form of a respiratory protection device called N95. This particular respirator serves to reduce exposure to small amounts of hexane, although only if the worker is wearing it while working with the solvent. Other workers should still wear a good quality non-hazardous respirator while working with the solvent and should also clean their hair and eyes before and after use to reduce exposure to the solvent. Recently, in November 2018, BPCL Kochi Refinery launched food-grade quality hexane (FCQ Hexane)
