Emulsifiers Market Receives A Growth Additive In The Form Of A Partnership Between Amyris And Ingredion Which Aims To Produce Low-Sugar Food Ingredients

Emulsifiers Market

In May 2021, a major bio-tech company producing natural and synthetic ingredients for the health and wellness market, Amyris, Inc., signed a deal with Ingredion, Inc., a leading ingredient-producing company, to produce and promote low-sugar and fermented food ingredients.

In foods, an emulsifier is any of a number of chemical additives that aid in the immersion of one liquid in another, such as the oil-water mixture in margarine, shortening, ice cream, and salad dressing. Emulsifiers can be grouped into several categories, depending on their specific function. General use emulsifiers mix ingredients with a liquid to create a homogenous, thick paste. Examples of general use emulsifiers include humectants (e.g., egg white, cream, mayonnaise), lecithin (e.g., soybean oil, milk fat), and lipids (e.g., olive oil, vegetable oil).

Food and beverage intake in Asia Pacific is rapidly increasing, owing to increasing population, rising wages, and urban sprawl. As a result of all of these influences, food emulsifiers and other food processing additives are becoming more widely used. Similarly, the increased consumption of dairy and frozen products is accommodating the emulsifiers market in the North American region.

The overall emulsifiers market is projected to be driven by an increase in packaged food consumption attributed to increasing disposable income and a rise in end-user applications of food emulsifiers. A growing number of businesses are shifting their focus to natural and organic skin care. Therefore, herbal emulsifiers are being used more often in organic hair and skin care formulations. As a result, businesses are investing in natural emulsifier research and development.

Food intake patterns are clearly shifting from unprocessed to packaged and ultra-processed foods. In emerging economies, hectic lifestyles have resulted in a decrease in cooking and a rise in snacking habits. Processed foods, such as breads and cereals, frozen and ready meals, and processed meat and seafood, are more common with consumers. This has resulted in a rising demand for different types of plant-based meat products and snack foods, and is supposed to propel the emulsifier market’s expansion. Although, the depletion of several natural resources from where these chemicals were extracted is causing a negative impact on the emulsifiers market. Likewise, the harmful effects on health due to emulsifier consumption are shortening the growth prospects of the emulsifiers market.

In April 2021, the American food processing giant, Archer Daniels Midland Company, and the Hong Kong-based company, Avant Meats, opened their respective food labs in Singapore to extend their manufacture of plant-sourced fish and meat business.
