These applications cause very little waste and high-profit margins. Due to these factors, it has become the most popular way to produce gypsum.

However, there are also other applications of gypsum mining that are far less well-known. The most prevalent of these is in the production of plaster for walls and flooring. There are two main types of gypsum for this purpose, which are rock and clay. Each type of material comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. It all depends on the intended application and environment.

Rock Gypsum is the product used to manufacture the majority of Portland cement products. This material is composed of sulfur and magnesium, which are held together by a chemical known as tetraglycine. This ingredient provides stability to the mixture while it cures, allowing for it to be blended with water or oil to create wallboard, board, and pipe, among other products.
