Increasing Number of Activities Related To Cell Culture Boosts Demand for Hypoxia Chamber

Hypoxia Chamber

The hypoxia chamber consists of an outer shell made from an aluminum alloy. The inner chamber is an acrylic tube containing a sterile solution containing a non-toxic solution of solution, water and bovine collagen. The outer chamber, along with a sterile needle containing microcassettes for inserting the samples, forms the inner chamber. The inner chamber is sealed with a precision-fitted lid which is closed by snap-locking lever.

Hypoxia is a form of oxygen deprivation, depriving a cell of oxygen, which can result in cell death. Cell death in the presence of oxygen leads to cell suicide, or programmed cell death. There are different types of hypoxia chamber systems including Closed Hypoxia Incubator (CLI), which utilize a closed pumping mechanism for circulation of media within the chamber. The closed chamber allows for optimal temperature and circulation control, along with minimal contamination. Continuous flow of media results in optimal oxygen concentration and temperature control, allowing for proper cell growth.

In April 2021, Germany-based ProBioGen AG announced that Asher Biotherapeutics, Inc. entered into a service agreement covering all aspects of cell line development, process development and GMP manufacturing at 1000 L bioreactor scale. Thus, increasing number of activities related to cell culture boost demand for hypoxia chamber. The chamber can be used to support autologous or bioreactional cell culture procedures. It provides protection against exogenous oxygen. It provides a controlled environment for cells, ensuring that the right medium has been introduced into the cell. The inner chamber allows for different temperatures to be maintained thus enabling in vitro methods to be performed. The sealed chamber prevents contamination of culture media by introducing an environment similar to the natural environment of the cells.

The hypoxia chamber also consists of a sealed lid, which can be easily removed for cleaning purposes. The self-contained unit utilizes standard laboratory incubators and contains an integrated pump for temperature control. The unit utilizes bio-probe setting strips for delivery of growth media into the cells. The enclosed lid also allows for automated flow of sample cultures.
