Manufacturers in US Using Commodity Chemicals in Industrial Applications Must Comply With Specific EPA and OSHA Regulations
Commodity chemicals can be defined as substances that are produced in huge quantities and are used to produce a certain product. This is done by large industrial organizations, which require the chemicals in bulk. For instance, it is necessary for a car manufacturer to use a certain type of lubricant in order to prevent the car from moving. In this case, the company needs to purchase all the ingredients that are required in order to make the lubricant, such as polyisocyanurate, hydrochloric acid and polypropylene.
There are many commodity chemicals that are used in agricultural processes and also manufactured in bulk to produce medicines and other pharmaceutical products. Bulk chemicals are also used to manufacture the dyes and additives that are used in the food industry. One of the bulk chemicals that is considered harmful to humans is ammonia. Ammonia is commonly found in natural lakes and water bodies as well as in wastelands around the world. Therefore, the residues of ammonia that are formed in our bodies are also considered harmful. Some of the commodity chemicals that are considered to be safe for human consumption are the alkaline chemicals and hydrochloric acid. These two chemicals are used to precipitate materials that are more stable and are usually extracted through various purification processes. When these bulk chemicals come into contact with water, they will react and release hydrochloric acid which is toxic to humans. The release of hydrochloric acid is very fast and can be very dangerous. When there is an alkaline substance present in the water it will react with alkaline substances present in the soil and rocks and generate further acids. As a result of this reaction, the alkaline substance will be reduced causing the water levels in the lakes and other bodies of water to reduce.
