North America Is Expected To Hold The Dominant Position In The Global Dental Caries Market Due To The Increasing Number Of Pipeline Studies In This Region

Dental Caries Market

A growing number of the drug in the pipeline is propelling the growth of the dental caries market. For instance, in February 2017, the Oral Health Centre of Expertise in Eastern Norway in collaboration with Public Dental Service from Ostfold, Oppland, and Hedmark, announced the post market surveillance (Phase 4) for fluoride varnishes and fissure sealants to evaluate its effectiveness in a pragmatic randomized clinical trial. The high prevalence of dental carries is again fostering the growth of the market. According to the World Health Organization, oral diseases affect close to 3.5 billion people worldwide, with caries of permanent teeth being the most common condition. Globally, it is estimated that 2.3 billion people suffer from caries of permanent teeth and more than 530 million children suffer from caries of primary teeth.

In October 2018, the University of Michigan in collaboration with three other universities, New York University School of Medicine, University of Iowa, and National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), initiated a phase 3 clinical trial for Silver Diamine Fluoride. The aim of study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) in arresting cavitated caries lesions

Dental caries is a general term used to describe several common dental infections. Most oral health disorders are periodontitis (gum infection), oral cancer, dental caries, oral indications of HIV/AIDS, cleft palate and lip, and noma. Oral caries occurs when bacteria infect the gums, bone, and tissues of the jawbone. This results in tartar and calculus, which is a sticky whitish material that grows on the teeth and around the gumline. Dental caries can cause pain and loosening of the teeth; thus it is necessary to treat them promptly to prevent further injury.

Periodontitis is a bacterial infection. Dental caries is caused by the action of certain microorganisms that produce acids that irritate the gums, bones, and tissues of the jaw. If left untreated, periodontitis can progress to more serious conditions such as endocarditis, which can result in life-threatening heart problems. People with a higher risk of developing periodontitis have a higher risk of developing dry mouth. Dry mouth, which is sometimes referred to as halitosis, is characterized by the presence of dry, sticky saliva, which may be present in the oral cavity even without the presence of food particles

North America is expected to hold the dominant position in the global dental caries market due to the increasing number of pipeline studies in this region. For instance, in November 2017, Virginia Commonwealth University initiated the clinical study on the device, OpalSeal, for the evaluation of protective effects of Opalseal against early dental decay in orthodontic patients. Opalseal is a fluoride-releasing primer that reduces cavities in patients using braces.
